The Art of Framing is a conservation- and museum-standard picture framing business that combines traditional techniques and modern materials to preserve, protect and beautifully present your artworks and memorabilia. We understand that techniques used to frame artworks have a direct impact upon their future value.
If you are a collector or artist, you can be sure that we understand what is required to frame your artworks to the highest standards.
Framing for now & for the future
We’re experienced and confident in handling all types of art, from a Picasso original to a holiday postcard that is brimming with sentimental value. We consider any artwork — whether a print, an original, a photo or memento — worthy of the same bespoke craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Our team of trade qualified framers are experts in archival-quality conservation framing techniques.
Our fundamental belief that the very best picture framing must stand the test of time drives everything we do and the choices we make. That is why when we help you to design your framing, we are as concerned about what you don't see (what’s between the artwork and backing board, hidden from view) as what you do (the beautiful artwork, frame and matt board).
You name it, we’ve framed it
Do you need to frame a university degree, water colour, canvas, embroidery, tappa cloth, 1920s flapper dress, holiday poster, wedding photo, walking stick, golf ball, whale tooth or aboriginal artwork? We have done them all many times, may ways over many, many years. Plus, we’ll help you to design framing that you will love now and for decades to come. Check out our gallery to see some of the artworks and memorabilia we’ve framed over the recent years.
We love framing the ordinary and the extraordinary: we will happily frame your university degree with as much care as a Matisse or the golf ball that landed a hole in one.
We offer custom, quality framing for all kinds of artworks and objects, from print framing to needlework framing, canvas artworks to 3D mementos and more.
We support Australian small businesses
At The Art of Framing, it is our aim to support local businesses: we use as many Australian and locally-manufactured materials as possible. We’re especially proud to be the first retailer of the Brisbane-manufactured Australian Hardwood range.
A range of techniques & styles to suit every piece & every customer
Just because we know traditional techniques doesn’t mean we aren’t up on the latest ones too. Is your style cutting-edge, contemporary with clean lines? We can design and make a picture frame to suit that aesthetics – perhaps frameless glass or a Perspex case for your art? We also offer a laminating and block-mounting service.
We have a diverse range of traditional timber frames and matts in store, including native timber and European-made frames. We can guide you on the perfect pairings with your artwork.
Do you collect antique maps or original Gould lithographs? We can (and have) framed many of them to exacting standards.
Plus, very few framers offer some of the traditional framing skills and techniques that we are trained and experienced in, including French matting, hand-drawn lines, fabric-wrapped and gilded mat boards.
A network of experts to care for your artwork
We don’t suggest that we are experts at everything (just picture framing!), but we do strongly believe that NO picture framer should attempt to restore any item of art or memorabilia unless they have the training and qualifications to do so. That is why we collaborate with the best in other fields. We work closely with restorers and conservators of photographs, artwork, textiles, and picture frames. If you have an artwork that needs reframing but it needs to be cleaned first, we can help you with that too. We will suggest different options for safeguarding your artwork from deterioration in the future.
Via our collaborators, we can also help you with:
- Art restoration
- Art installation
- Frame restoration
- Photographic restoration
- Fabric restoration
- Plaques, and
- Commissioning artists.
